We are known as “Smiling Angels,”
but don’t let our smiles fool you.
Behind our angelic faces lie the hearts of mischievous little devils.
Who are we? We are Samoyeds!

Origin
In the 17th century, the Samoyed breed was developed by the Samoyedic nomadic tribes, who later settled in the polar regions east of the Ural Mountains. Named after these Siberian herders, these dogs were originally used to pull sleds and guard reindeer.
Breed Traits of the Samoyed
What makes Samoyeds so unique?
★ Exceptional Hearing
Samoyeds possess remarkably sharp hearing—16 times more sensitive than humans. They can distinguish between subtle differences, such as a metronome’s beats at 96 vs. 100 or 133 vs. 144 vibrations per minute, feats unimaginable to humans. Even while sleeping, they remain highly alert, capable of identifying sounds within a 1-kilometer radius.
★ Coat
As working dogs bred for cold climates, Samoyeds have a dense double-layered coat that withstands harsh weather. Their undercoat is short, soft, and tightly packed, while the outer coat consists of longer, coarser guard hairs that stand straight and never curl. A distinctive “mane” forms around the neck and shoulders.
★ Coat Colors
Pure white; white with faint biscuit or cream tones; or light biscuit overall.
★ Temperament
The Samoyed’s charm lies first in its radiant personality. Alert, strong, lively, noble, and elegant, they captivate with their snow-white coats, smiling faces, and intelligent dark eyes—truly one of the most beautiful dog breeds today.
To be more beautiful
★ Bathing
Alternate between high-quality deep-cleansing shampoo and whitening shampoo. Brush their coat 1-2 times daily to remove dead hair and prevent tangles.
★ Grooming Technique
Use a pin brush, starting from the tail and moving toward the head. Hold the fur with your left hand and brush upward with your right, lifting the coat to add volume—similar to how hairstylists create fluffy hair.
Note: Samoyeds are already stunning! Avoid trimming their coat beyond routine grooming and care.
Samoyeds in History

★ Rise to Fame
In the late 19th century, fur traders introduced Samoyeds to the U.S. and Europe. Their snow-white coats quickly won hearts in England.
★ Polar Explorers
In the early 20th century, Samoyeds became the go-to companions for Arctic expeditions. Despite enduring extreme conditions and hauling loads 1.5 times their body weight daily, they remained cheerful and hardworking—a testament to their resilient spirit.
Most notably, Samoyed teams assisted the legendary explorer Roald Amundsen and his crew in reaching the South Pole in 1911, securing their place in history.
Samoyeds Today
In modern dog shows, Samoyeds shine with their beauty and exceptional working abilities, frequently winning championships. They’ve also become beloved family companions worldwide.
When you welcome a Samoyed into your home, you’ll first be enchanted by their breathtaking looks. But as life unfolds, you’ll discover their true charm runs far deeper than their appearance.
